Victoria School Foundation News

It has been another busy year for the Victoria School Foundation. The Board has been involved in two fundraisers: Vic’s magnificent production of My Fair Lady and the play, Father of the Bride, produced by the legal community which was hosted by the school.

It was the third year that the legal play has been at Vic. The Players de Novo donated $23,000 to the Foundation the first year and $32,000 the second year. Alberta Lotteries Community Initiatives Program matched the funds the first year and matched not only the donation the second year but also a further donation by the Telus Foundation of $19,000 which made a total of $150,000 which has been used to upgrade the sound, lighting and other stage equipment for Vic’s Eva O. Howard Theatre.

Our My Fair Lady Gala in March was a great success. Attendance by our supporters and generous donations from Don and Norine Lowry for the raffle and Quikcard Solutions for the silent auction helped us to raise funds for this year’s scholarships. As well, significant donations to this year’s scholarship fund were received from Landmark Homes and Canadian Western Bank.

The Foundation was also pleased to receive a grant of $18,271.92 from the Community Spirit Donation Grant Program which will be added to its Edmonton Community Foundation endowment fund.

Our Gala for this year was moved to December 4th, 2009 and we will have more detailed information shortly. The reason for the change was that Vic was able to secure the recently released rights for Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.

At the end of 2008 our endowment fund sat at approximately $1 million. It is the Foundation’s hope that it will eventually recover to its previous amount of $1.2 million. The ultimate goal of the Foundation is to have an endowed fund of $1.6 million.
